Description, documentation and revitalization of endangered languages

Description

The Amahuaca language is a little-studied Peruvian language with highly unique typological features that make it extremely interesting for linguistic theory. This project has undertaken the documentation of Amahuaca, as well as the writing of a comprehensive reference grammar and a complete dictionary of the language. Simultaneously, various educational materials have been developed, including a school dictionary in the form of a mobile application. A central component of the project is to consolidate a language revitalization program for the Amahuaca language in direct coordination with Amahuaca people from all regions who have recently formed (within the framework of this project) a political organization that brings together all Amahuaca communities. Funded by the National Science Foundation through an agreement with Chapman University. Research Areas: Computational Linguistics, Databases, and Language Technologies; Linguistic Revitalization, Description, and Documentation of Endangered Languages.
